I am a Turkish citizen of Ossetian origin, (The Republic of North Ossetia-Alania /medieval kingdom of the Alans.) My grandfather had to leave his homeland because of the Bolshevik Revolution. The noble families began to feel pressure from the authorities. Supporters of the Red Army in search of the 'Certificate of Noble Origin', approved in Tsarist times, constantly searched my grandfather's house. During one of these searches, my grandfather was arrested. After 10 days in prison, the director of the prison, had previously worked in my grandfather's house, helped him to escape execution. Then they had to leave their home and move to Turkey. My original surname is Mamsirati, Turkish government gave us a Turkish surname Temurlenk. My father gave me these Ossetian- Turkish names; Irme Ozlem, which means longing for homeland. I prefer to be called Irme Mamsirati. I'm on my way to know myself and understand who I am and art is my way of discovering myself, and every minute of my life with people who affect me, is my main inspiration!
When I first saw the painting One: Number 31 by Jackson Pollock, I felt him and he made me feel myself, the real me. I was driven by the influence of Pollock, Richter and into abstract expressionism. Everyone wants to be heard and felt. I moved back to my homeland in 2017, to understand my ancestors. I realised that abstract is not totally enough for me to express myself. I felt like I was living in a different time line when I was there. This made me questioned myself deeply about who I am and what I want. Malevich also influenced me, as 'the pure artistic feeling'. After I came back to Istanbul, my expression of painting changed. Being a woman is the main theme of my works, how people see us and how we see us.
